So there's loads of games going free-to-play at the moment. It's hard to keep track on them all, so here's a look at the top three available right now:
1) Star Wars: The Old Republic (Heavily restricted)
A must try for any Star Wars or sci-fi fan. The Star Wars universe is rich with depth and as such, the story-line is one of the most praised aspects of the game. Since it's free there's no harm in giving it a go. However, there is heavy restrictions on those who wish to play for free - some restrictions that are made just to be a massive pain (for example, no sprint until level 15). If you can play through the restrictions then you can really appreciate what a great world SW:TOR provides.
2) Tera Online (Slightly restricted)
This hasn't yet gone entirely free-to-play, however, it is due to change in February. En Masse Entertainment claims that all of the content will now become available for free and that a cash shop will be the main source of revenue for the game. The cash shop will house mainly vanity or consumable items and there is a subscription model in place too. However, overall the restrictions seem fairly good as it seems there will not be a massive advantage to paying. Definitely worth a try once it finally becomes F2P.
3) Planetside 2 (Minimum restrictions)
This MMO-FPS has managed to become fairly popular since it's release. Hosting epic battles across three continents, Planetside 2 is certainly an entertaining battle. For people who enjoy FPS, slight simulation or tank battles, Planetside has something for you. The cash shop and subscription model only provide things that allow you to unlock weapons/modifications/skins faster - they do not give you an advantage of the battlefield - hence that's why it seems there's only a minimum amount of restriction placed upon the game.
