The Final Fantasy XIV development team gave a tip-off for an upcoming announcement on new years day. Once again the game has opened up for beta applications a full two years after the official launch. The future of this game now rests in the hands of potential players as this is surely the last chance XIV will be given.
This time around XIV are also accepting PS3 beta applications (using the code supplied with Final Fantasy XIII to grant access). As a bonus to the beta applications, Square-Enix have also given us a little surprise by adding a few extra minutes the the 'End of an Era' trailer, which was played once the original version of the game closed.

For once, Square-Enix seems to be doing something right. At lease the current game seems like a step in the right direction. Yet, is it enough?
Square-Enix have also provided a beta roadmap for all to see. In this, they outline at what stages they aim to introduce PS3 players and that characters in the final stage of beta (which is open beta) will be carried into release.
